HOW MANY SWIMMING LESSONS PER WEEK DO KIDS REALLY NEED?

13-10-2023

This is a great question and one that we get asked all the time.

Firstly, we need to remember that every child is different and has individual abilities, skills and goals in life.

On average, most kids take, at minimum, one swimming lesson a week.

But if you’re looking for your child to:

  • Get regular weekly exercise
  • Improve their focus and mental agility
  • Work on water safety and reduce their risk of drowning
  • Make some friends and enjoy a healthy activity

Then we would probably recommend your child has a regular weekly lesson and also joins our swim camps over Easter and summer break.

Our camps are really popular and a lots of fun.

Check out our blog on 7 Reasons Why Your Child Should Join A Swim Camp.

In addition to the above, if your child is getting a bit more serious about swimming lessons and would like to pass an exam or learn to swim competitively and maybe:

  • Wants to work on particular techniques
  • Shows a keen interest in swimming as a sport or hobby
  • Has shown commitment to lessons
  • Wants to be at the swimming pool more
  • Has a clear goal or plan that they want to follow (remember to always ask our instructors about our plan of action for your child)

Then we’d recommend taking swimming lessons 2-3 times a week which would be a good sweet spot.

As always, we recommend talking to your child’s instructor to discuss any swim learning plans and the best ways you can support your child in and out of the pool.
