WHAT I LEARNT FROM BABY SWIMMING LESSONS AROUND THE WORLD

03-05-2024

I’ve been teaching babies to swim for over 15 years.

During this time I’ve traveled to many places around the world and experienced different types of baby swimming lessons.

Experiencing different types of lessons and teaching styles has taught me many things and I enjoy bringing these learnings back to Swim Max to share with our families and their water babies.

Here's what I've learned from the global swimming community:

1️⃣ Consistency is key: There are many different techniques taught around the world each with its own style. The one thing that has the biggest impact on how fast a baby becomes safer and more confident in the water is consistency.

2️⃣ Universal joy: Regardless of geographical location or cultural background, babies universally respond to water with joy and curiosity. Swimming lessons are a great place for creating positive experiences in the water.

3️⃣ Safety first: Safety remains a primary focus of baby swimming lessons. At Swim Max, teaching water babies basic water survival skills equips them with invaluable tools to navigate aquatic environments safely.

4️⃣ Bonding beyond borders: The bond between parent and child is strengthened through shared experiences in the water. Baby swimming lessons emphasise the importance of baby-parent bonding, building trust and connection.

5️⃣ Developmental milestones: Across the world, baby swimming lessons play a crucial role in promoting physical, cognitive, and emotional development. From improved coordination to enhanced social skills, the benefits are profound and far-reaching.

6️⃣ Cultural variations: While the core principles of baby swimming remain consistent, cultural differences shape the delivery and content of lessons. From Scandinavia's emphasis on cold water tolerance to Hawaii's integration of traditional practices, each region brings its own unique flavor to aquatic education.

This shows us that baby swimming lessons serve as a universal language, crossing borders and enriching the lives of infants and families around the world.

No matter what country, the most important thing to remember is that all babies deserve to learn to be safe and confident in water.

Since the birth of my daughter, Sky, in January 2023 I’ve enjoyed taking part in various baby swimming lessons in Lithuania, my hometown.
